Rare Disease: Stopping at Nothing

February 6, 2021

2020 was a year in which the world as we know it stopped. Or I think it’s fair to say that for many, it at least slowed down. That is especially true for those in the pharmaceutical industry, as many field representatives stopped traveling and visiting physician offices.

However, for Mercalis' (formerly TrialCard) Virtual Engagement team working in rare diseases, not a single thing changed.

We were in a unique situation in which our workdays continued as usual because we are already equipped to work 100% remotely to help rare disease patients. If anything, the pandemic incited us to be even more vigorous in our efforts to make sure these patients were not forgotten.

Sure, COVID-19 patients were at the forefront of everyone’s mind, but rare disease patients still mattered too. Although the rest of the world slowed down, it did not mean these diseases stopped progressing. We remained focused on our goal of helping physicians identify rare disease patients and ultimately changing the course of someone’s life.

Our support team’s preparedness made way for a very successful year that positively impacted many rare disease patients. I have always been proud to be part of this rare disease team, and that has never been truer than this past year.
